Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI is a relative measure of your weight to your height and as such indicates your ideal weight range based on your height.

It is calculated by dividing your weight (in kilograms) by the square of your height (in metres).

Classification of Body Mass Index

Classification BMI Risk of Co-morbities
Underweight < 18.50 Low
Normal Range (Healthy Weight) 18.50 - 24.99 Average
Overweight > 25  
Preobese 25 - 29.99 Increased
Obese Class 1 30 - 34.99 Moderate
Obese Class 2 35 - 39.99 Severe
Obese Class 3 > 40 Very Severe
